Proximity sensor is a sensor or switch that can detect the presence of a metal type target without physical contact. Usually these sensors consist of a solid-state electronic device that is tightly wrapped to protect from the effects of vibration, liquid, chemical, and excessive corrosive. Proximity sensors can be applied to sensing conditions on objects that are considered too small or too soft to move a switch mechanically.
